"why is russian revolution considered one of the biggest disasters?"
-aims not met: demands for social and economic justice end up with dictatorship of proletariat
-social upheaval
-economic losses
-high casualties from war, violence, starvation and diseases. (more than ww1)
-revolution disrupted industrial progress (war communism)
-revolutionary govt gave 1/4 of land away
-led to rise of Stalin- atrocities (reign of terror) but 5 yr plans improved economy
"british primacy in first half of 19th century"
-competitive advantage: capital and technology - colonial trade
-vast agricultural sector
-rich coal and iron deposits near waters (easy transportation of raw materials to factories)
-short distances
-skilled artisans, mobile labor, capitalist entrepreneurs
-stable govt which supports industrialization (easy to open up business, tariffs/protectionism, bill of rights 1689- no revolution, finance infrastructure)
-expanding population
"modernization"
-"concept that refers to a process in which society goes through industrialization, urbanization and other social changes that completely transforms lives of individuals" wikipedia
"urbanization"
-removal of the rural characteristics of towns/areas, process associated with development of civilization.
